Living in a community and working together, the teams have the opportunity to witness the efforts being undertaken by Habitat for Humanity in Paraguay to eliminate inadequate housing that affects many families in the country. The Habitat for Humanity Paraguay Global Village Program is a mission trip, where the group of people (8-25) form a brigade. This trip of approximately 2 weeks, is designed to live a spiritual and educational experience within an intercultural field. Any country in the world can participate in this program. Both men and women are allowed. Children aged from 15 to 18 are allowed to come as well, but they must be accompanied by an adult (with written consent). Participants form teams or groups of 10-18 people (open) or 10-25 people (closed). Global Village Program is designed only for groups or teams. But, we do often work with Individual Volunteers. Habitat for Humanity is bases its national office in Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay. The Program coordinator is responsible for the ongoing support given during the stay in their country, and all travel arrangements. Activities that are planned are focused on providing support to Paraguayan families in housing construction and adequate experimentation through the coexistence and cultural activities involving the social reality in the country. Since Habitat for Humanity began its work in Paraguay (1998) about 1050 international volunteers have arrived in the country. The participation of the program has a cost that depends on the number of travel days. For example, a journey of 10 days requires costs USD. 1,410 approximately. This amount includes a donation to the Revolving Founds for Habitat for Humanity Paraguay, enabling families to provide interest-free loans for the construction of their houses. Also includes: meals, lodging, transportation, emergency medical, trip cancellation insurance and all the support and guidance materials in Paraguay. Please, advise that this cost does not include airfare, airport taxes or processing of documentation. No experience or expertise is needed for construction. All instructions will be given and received at the site. The brigade members who have some skills can work in more specialized tasks. In the task of building housing the volunteers usually assist the preparation of concrete or cement mix, moving materials, digging septic chambers, cleaning and painting walls, and preparing electrical conduits. At least 6 months prior to arrival in Paraguay. Having completed the course leaders in HFHI or the National Bureau of Habitat. This requirement is necessary for all leaders Brigade.
