HABITAT FOR HUMANITY JOINS TO THE COMMEMORATION OF WORLD VOLUNTEER DAY

Today Monday 5th of December is celebrated theVolunteer Day. Habitat for Humanity recognize and apreciate the work of 13.900 volunteers world wide and specialy in Paraguay, 176 volunteers of 14 brigades wich last year has arrived to the country to help people. Since the beginning, Habitat Paraguay has recived more than 1.400 volunteers.
Trought this year,13.900 volunteers weremovilized to make contructives activities with Habitat for Humanity in Latin America and the Caribean. 1.700 of them made non-constructives activities, like advocation of the cause, capacitations and others. 10.400 of 15.000 volunteers were locals, people helping in their own communities.
In Paraguay, last year has overcome the number of volunteers involved in the advocacy of the cause, has registred more than 16.300 hours of volunteering wich helped Paraguayan families to live in an adequate housing.
Around the world, the spirit and the solidarity of the volunteering is growing even more. Young people are looking ways to support their communities and ensure a better future for them. The enterprises are answering to the calling of the Social Responsability, organizing brigades of volunteers to work shoulder-to-shoulder with the comunities where their facilities are located. The families are organizing themself for help eachother between neighbors. Also retired people are getting involved in social activities, providing their experience and wisdom. The volunteering is important.
The International Volunteering Day for the Economic and social Development was adopted for the United Nations in 1985. Since then, governments, theONU and the civil societies organizations had movilized volunteers across the world with the intention to celebrate the 5th of December (worldvolunteerweb.org).
However, the real meaning of celebrate the International Volunteering Day today, it's what happens tomorrow. Improve the lives of families arround the world is a 365 days effort work. Latin volunteers, caribeans and others are building a more supportive Latin America.
