Paraguay has a housing deficit estimated 754,000 homes (**), with an annual increase of 15,000 more each year. Poverty affects 4 out of 10 Paraguayans.
This means that thousands of families are living in inadequate housing, built with precarious materials in overcrowded communities, and without adequate sanitary facilities. In many cases, the legal regulation of property is not present, along with the lack of basic utilities such as water, electricity and communications.
In Paraguay there are very few government programs that subsidize housing for their residents. Habitat for Humanity Paraguay is one of the few non-governmental organizations, nonprofit that works on housing issues.
